10 out of 10 - Kapiti Coast

Our Pipistrel Electro “Rerengo Hiko” just spend 10 fantastic days with the Kapiti District Aero Club. The Club was inundated with enquiries and booking for a flight in NZ’s first and only electric plane. And there was such a long waiting list, that we couldn’t get everyone up. However, we did fly every day, 10 out of 10. A total of 57 people experienced electric flight. In fact, despite a terrible winter forecast and the shortest week of the year (winter solstice), ZK-EAL flew more time and more hours than any other petrol plane at Kapiti, proving it is a truly useful training aircraft. Name The Plane Winning Flight

We asked the public to help us name the first electric plane in New Zealand... and we received some fantastic ideas. The winning name was "Rerenga Hiko", te reo Maori for "Flying Electric".

The winning prize was a flight in the unique aircraft. As you can see, Dianne loved it. The electric plane is available for flight training and trial flights from Christchurch and Rangiora, NZ.

Theo Gibson from The EV Podcast came along to Christchurch Airport with a microphone and camera and we went for a fly and had a great chat from 1,000ft above the Canterbury scenery on a lovely, sunny day. Flying on pure electrons means it was quiet and guilt-free. Click here to watch the video.
